As a part of the continued support of the Governor’s Highway Safety Initiative Washington Police Department coordinated a DWI checkpoint Saturday night which netted multiple charges. Charges are:
13 CHARGES OF NO OPERATORS LICENSE
1 CHILD RESTRAINT VIOLATION
4 REGISTRATION VIOLATIONS
3 INSPECTION VIOLATIONS
1 DWLR
1 GRADUATED LICENSE VIOLATION
1 WINDOW TINT VIOLATION
1 DRUG PARAPHERNALIA
2 DRUG CHARGES (MARIJUANA)
1 CAR DEALER VIOLATION
2 DWI CHARGES
1 OPEN CONTAINER VIOLATION
This checkpoint also netted the apprehension of a wanted person. Quinton Javier Howard, age 19, of Englehard, NC was apprehended after he failed to stop for the checkpoint and fled on foot after running off the road. Howard was charged with felony flee to elude arrest, possession of a stolen firearm, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, as well as outstanding warrants from Washington county for failure to appear and Dare County for second degree burglary. Howard was placed in Beaufort County Jail with a $31,300 secured bond pending court appearances. As per the new law that went into effect on December 1st, where when a person flees to elude arrest in a vehicle, his vehicle was seized and turned over to the local sheriff’s office until the court determines how it should be disposed of.
This checkpoint was a coordinated effort by many agencies including Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, NC DMV, Chocowinity Police Department, NC state Highway Patrol, and NC Probation and Parole Officers.
